Make of yourself an offering
by Justine Epstein
This song was composed in 2018 by my dear friend Justin Epstein while on a group water pilgrimage in Portugal. We were walking the course of the river Mira in the Alentejo from source to sea, along many sections which had dried up due to drought. This song came to Justine in a very lush and secret valley garden passed down through generations. She lay down in the water and the song came to her almost fully formed. I then helped her to arrange a harmony and later transcribed it for four voices. The first verse represents the water speaking to the humans and the second verse is a response from the humans to the water.
Make of yourself an offering
Surrender to the Earth
Make of yourself an offering
To the water who gives you birth
Surrender to (the water)
Revelation through (the water)
Humble and home, never alone
Forever I am with you
Forever I am in you
We make of ourselves an offering
We surrender to the Earth
We make of ourselves an offering
To the water who gives us birth
Surrender to (the water)
Revelation through (the water)
Humble and home, never alone
Together we walk with you
Together we walk for you.
